Econobis helps average citizens get greener energy for an affordable price. We helped them restructure their entire interface so that the user experience became something pleasant, friendly and less time consuming.

User friendly administration

Econobis is an administration system which is helping the average citizens of Holland get affordable, green energy for their homes. Every energy-initiative in Holland can use Econobis to gather information about the homes their citizens live in and then make recommendations for greener solutions.

Econobis had a user-centered problem, in the sense that the data gathering process was rather intensive, confusing and intimidating. We redesigned their interface for a more friendly user-experience; for both the users and the energy-initiatives that use the system.

Through interviews we found out that when users fill in their information, they usually do so under the guidance of an expert that has come around to their house. This is usually done on an iPad’s and mobile phones, so we approached the redesign from a mobile-first perspective.

What is important

By abstracting all the gather-able data, we were able to apply a hierarchy to the gathering process; from High / Medium / Low importance. These rankings were based on what the users and energy-initiative would need to interact with most on a daily basis.

Anything that was visible on the home screens was high importance, medium items were placed one layer behind this, and low importance items were placed in a settings dialogue. This simplified the interface drastically.

From here, we made sure to design a user interface that was rigid enough to remain usable, but flexible enough so that each energy-initiative could style it to match their own branding.
